Phoenixville, PA --- Culminating an outstanding season, the Renaissance Academy Knights varsity boys’ basketball team defeated the Mercy Monarchs in the league semifinals game last night.

The game would turn out to be a test of will and desire for the Knights after a great first quarter where they took a commanding 18-point lead. The momentum would swing in favor of the Monarchs in the last 4 minutes of the 2nd quarter where they were able to cut into the lead by 10 points. Going into halftime our Knights would hold on to an 8-point lead.

At the beginning of the 2nd half, Monarchs would continue to test the Knights in a battle that would go back and forth between 5 and 10 points leading up to the 4th quarter. The 4th quarter would show more of the same, as Mercy clawed their way back into the game by cutting into the lead. With only 6 minutes left in the game, the Monarchs trailed the Knights by only 5 points.

The Knights showed resilience by never letting Mercy take away the lead. Propelled by "Cap", Jaeshon GoodmanRhodes and "Point", Malachy Lacy, our Knights would take command of the game and never look back. The final score of 56 to 45 is an outstanding reflection of character by the Renaissance Academy Knights.

Major contributions from Tyler Magyar, Tyson Tate, Caleb BaileyGwynn, Lanier Baird, Michael Robinson, Avinash Ganguly, Jahi Clark, Robert Miller Jr., Adam Ferst, and Darian Capobianco have helped lead the Knights to the League Championship.

Head Coach Maurice Moon is exceedingly proud of what his team has accomplished this season. “From 6 am practices, to Saturday afternoon workouts - from strength and conditioning sessions, to training with professional trainers - from community service events to keeping up with school work and other extracurricular activities, our Knights boys (along with their parents and teachers) deserve a salute for all the hard work and sacrifice that it took to get us here.”
