Junior Academy (Grades 7 & 8)

Early adolescents are embarking on an exciting intellectual journey, but they are often more concerned with who is sitting next to them than with where they are going. In order to engage the hands, minds, and hearts of these students, the curriculum is carefully designed to be connected to their questions about the world.

Home Base:

Homebase is comprised of a small group of students and a teacher which will remain the same in both 7th and 8th grade. Students will review grades, learn about and discuss our Core Values, set goals, and prepare for college through intentional lessons and activities.

English Language Arts:

English Language Arts is taken daily by all 7th and 8th grade students. ELA courses consist of the study of reading, writing, speaking and listening as designated by the Common Core State Standards.
Courses: English Language Arts 7, English Language Arts 8, ELA Bridges

Social Science:

Social Science is taken daily by all 7th and 8th grade students. Over the two years of middle school, students will cover the history of the Unites States as well as geography as designated by the State Standards. Courses: United States History 7, United States History 8

Mathematics:

Mathematics is taken daily by all 7th and 8th grade students. Courses vary and are assigned based on ability and course progression.
Courses: Math 7, Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Geometry

Science:

Science is taken daily by all 7th and 8th grade students. 7th grade focuses on the study of life sciences and 8th on the study of physical sciences. Both courses follow the designated Common Core State Standards. Courses: Science 7, Science 8

World Language:

Spanish is taken four days out of the six day cycle by all students in 7th and 8th grade. Students who are ready are able to take more advanced levels of Spanish. Courses: Spanish 7/8, Advanced Spanish 7/8

Visual Arts:

Students in 7th and 8th grade are able to take at least one visual art class each year. Classes meet twice during a six day cycle.
Courses: Art, Drama

Music:

Students in 7th and 8th grade are able to take at least one musical class which will meet twice during a six day cycle.
Courses: General Music, Chorus, Band

Physical Education and Health:

Students in 7th and 8th grade are able to take at least one physical education class and all 8th grade students will take health. Classes meet twice during a six day cycle.
Courses: Physical Education, Pilates & Yoga, Dance, Ballet, Health 8

Academic Support:

Students who are in need of additional support based on testing data, will be provided with math and/or reading support in place of an elective course.

Unique Experiences:

Academy Council - student government National Junior Honor Society-junior level group for qualifying students

Middle School Sports

volleyball, soccer, basketball, cheer leading, baseball, cross country
