Phoenixville, PA – The current pandemic did not stop students from pitching in to make their school a cleaner, more beautiful campus. In honor of Earth Day on Friday, April 23, 2021, nine members of the Renaissance Academy (RA) Key Club and Environmental Club gloved up and broke off into pairs of two to scour the RA playground, the front and sides of the school and the parking lot to pick up trash. Ms. Lynda Leonetti, RA Key Club Advisor and Ms. Lauren Gregory, RA Environmental Club Advisor were also onsite to organize the student environmentalist.
COVID safety measures were observed for the event. Prior to arrival, parents completed a COVID Health Screener form for each of the students. Upon arrival, the masked student volunteers had their temperature checked before they could participate in the day’s activity.
Ms. Leonetti said that she was very proud of the students volunteering to use their Friday to better the RA campus. “The students enjoyed being out in the fresh air, while having the opportunity to help keep RA free of trash and to meet up with some of their classmates. In the end, we picked up almost three large bags of trash from the campus.”
