Harrisburg, PA - On Saturday, March 7th, 2020, the Pennsylvania Art Education Association hosted its Youth Art Month Exhibit at the Pennsylvania Department of Education building in Harrisburg, PA.

The PAEA is the state branch of the National Art Education Association and in addition to providing professional development and resources to art educators; they serve as advocates to our government promoting the importance of art in our schools.

Renaissance Academy Art Teacher, Diana Kelly, who is also a member of the PAEA, was invited to submit 3 works of art to be included in the exhibit. Pieces were selected based upon fine craftsmanship, creative expression, and focus on the objectives of the projects. We congratulate Ayla Collingwood, 11th grade, Emilio Berico, 10th grade, and Pearlyn Sathish, 6th grade for their outstanding work.

Mrs. Kelly, who attended the unveiling of the art exhibit with Ayla, said that she truly appreciated this opportunity for her young artists. “The arts are vital to our student’s education. They allow the students to discover new methods of communication, they teach problem solving, and they encourage the students to synthesize what is known into something new. These creative skills are imperative to the careers that these young people might encounter in the future.”

Youth Art Month is an annual observance each March to emphasize the value of art education for all children and to encourage support for quality school art programs. The 2020 exhibit is expected to be displayed on the PA Art Education Association website soon.
