Starting May 16th, a new program will be introduced to Renaissance Academy. Renaissance is proud to be partnering with the Aunt Flow company by providing menstrual product dispensers in the bathrooms! Dispensers will be found in the girls’ bathrooms in both buildings as well as the gender-neutral bathrooms.
Aunt Flow provides 100% cotton tampons and pads that are completely free. Offering free tampons and pads reduces period poverty, which can increase class attendance and make menstruators feel more comfortable in their school environments.
It is important to support young menstruators so they understand having a period is not a taboo subject, and is a normal bodily function. Toilet paper is free - why aren’t tampons and pads?
This new program is part of a student led project. Willow Wright, an 8th grader at Renaissance is working on her Silver award, a girl scout achievement for cadettes. Willow's passion for this project has led her to raise awareness and take action on the subject of period poverty in her school.
