Renaissance Academy Student Learning Contract Conferences

Student Learning Contract Conferences (SLC Conferences) hold an essential role in the collaborative educational process here at The Renaissance Academy. For our returning families the SLC Conference is a familiar experience, and for our new families, it is a crucial step toward solidifying the success of your child’s academic year.

*There are No Regular Classes on SLC days, however, students are expected to attend the conference meeting with their parent/guardian and teacher(s).

Expectations during the SLC Conference:

  • Students: Be present and be prepared to discuss progress and your personal goals for the current and upcoming trimesters. Students will come with specific goals in mind and will be expected to formalize those goals during the conference. Students Must Attend Their Meeting!
  • Parents / Guardians: Preview the student grades/grade report before the conference (This is available via Skyward). The primary focus is on assisting with student goals and looking ahead to make improvements during the remainder of the trimester.
  • Teachers: Assist students in composing SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Timely) Goals through the Naviance Portal. Teachers will guide students and take active roles in working on student goals, assessing progress, and communicating that progress to the parent/guardians.

The Key to success: Conferences are to be Student Led!

How to choose a time slot based on your child's grade:

Grades K-2nd: Please choose ONE slot for your child's Home Base teacher. If your child has a different teacher for Math or ELA, you may also select a slot for that person as well. You will need to know the teacher's name to do this.

Grades 5th-6th: Please choose a minimum of one slot in a subject area for which your child has set a goal. This course could be an area of struggle or one in which they would like to challenge themselves. As these grades are departmentalized, you are not required to see the Home Base teachers; however, you are welcome to do so if the schedule allows for it.

Grades 7th-12th: Please choose a minimum of 1 slot, but feel free to select additional slots as your child has a departmentalized schedule and up to 5 academic teachers each day.

Fine Art (FA): FA Teachers do not require appointments. They will be available for 'drop-ins' during the SLC times on both days. Please email the FA Teacher ahead of time to set up a virtual meeting link.
