The “Bee” Must Go On – Spelling Bees 2021

Last month, 14 students in grades 3 through 6 participated in the 2021 RA Spelling Bee. Like everything else during the pandemic, this year’s Bee was held a little differently.
Conducted through the Scripps National Spelling Bee program, RA participants competed using an online test format over a period of four days. Several RA students had stand-out performances in the Bee, including Om Khandare (5th grade), Brynn Ma (6th grade), Samarth Mangal (3rd grade), and Ajay Ganesh (6th grade) whose stellar-spelling earned him a spot to go on to the Chester County Spelling Bee.
The Chester County Spelling Bee was then held on February 10th, 2021 via av Zoom Meeting. Adapting well to the competition’s online format, Ajay Ganesh represented RA commendably by placing 10th out of all the participants from Chester County.
RA Spelling Bee Committee Chair and RA Spanish Teacher, Jonathan (J.J.) Hinkle said that he was pleased with both the performance and participation of his spellers. “While the virtual format may not have been as exciting as the usual live competitions, we cannot understate how thrilled we are with the event turnout and accomplishments of our students. It shows a growing love of spelling at our school and gives us optimism that RA will produce strong Spelling Bee competitors for years to come
