Phoenixville, PA --- On June 4th, 2019, Renaissance Academy’s 8th grade Youth and Philanthropy group hosted a breakfast for local community organizations. During the event, the students presented the causes about which they were most passionate, their various activities throughout the school year, what they have learned, their mission, and reasons why they selected to support their designated community organizations.. This year, the Youth and Philanthropy group chose to provide mini grants to Hope Spring Equestrian Therapy Inc., St. Peters's Church Pantry, Pillars of Light and Love, PACS, Barnstone Art for Kids, and Canine Partners for Life.

The Youth and Philanthropy Group would not exist without the generous grant provided by the Phoenixville Community Health Foundation. The mission of the Phoenixville Community Health Foundation is to improve the health and quality of life for people in the greater Phoenixville region by increasing access to quality healthcare services and promoting healthy communities through grant making and collaborations with health, civic, business and community partners.

With a focus on leadership, teamwork, and community responsibility, the young group met several times a month as part of the school day where they learned the importance of philanthropy, the true meaning of it, and how they can continue to have an impact on others. This year, the students chose to name their group “Loving Life”.

In addition to the grant offering, “Loving Life” also hosted a carnival at the Phoenixville Senior Center, read to students at a local day care, and received visits from community organizations to learn more about their services.

The “Loving Life” advisers included Mrs. Lisa Fleck, High School Counselor and Mrs. Rachel Murtagh, 5th-8th grade Counselor. Mrs. Fleck said, "It is really rewarding to work with a different group of students each year and to see how excited they get about making a difference in somebody's life. They get so passionate with what they do and they grow so much over the course of the group. Students learn that they are able to make an impact in their community no matter their age or differences."
